I Would like to Buy a Vowel and a Chance for a New Life, Pat.

I am not actually admitting to watching The Wheel of Fortune, but where I live, it comes on directly following Jeopardy, so I usually catch the first few minutes of it.

This show has been on forever. Like, since I was in junior high and I am 41, so you do the math. Not really. Don't do the math. I was kidding. That is my numero uno pet peeve; when someone says "you do the math." Hey guess what smarty pants? I was a liberal arts major and I hate math. If you try to make me do math while listening to your stupid story, I will stop listening and think you are a jerk for attempting to trick me into doing something I have spent my whole avoiding. And while we are at it, I don't really give a crap if you intended your pun or not.

Anyway, since the show has been on let's say 25 years and it is on every blasted day, there have been roughly 12 million episodes, right? (Don't email if that figure is slightly off). What is my point? My point is this. At the start of every show, Pat likes to chat up the contestants to see what kind of fascinating life they lead. Since there have been 12 million episodes and three contestants per show, that means about 36 million people have been on "America's show."  Here is my beef. How is it that every single 36 million of them has either a "handsome husband" or "wonderful wife?" I am sorry. I do not buy it.

Has anyone on that show ever had an ugly husband or a bitchy wife?

As far as I can tell, the only criteria for getting on this show is to have a really loud voice and the ability to give a canned answer to that probing Sajak question, "Are you married?"

For just once, I would like to hear something along these lines:

Pat, not only do I not have a husband/wife, but I have not had a date in 10 years.

Pat, my wife is a raging lunatic who beats our kids when she is not at the bar.

Pat, my husband is a big fat slob who has not worked in three years and I need the loot to divorce his ass.

PS: And I am not saying all this because of that time (many, many years ago) that Lorraine and I stood in line for 9 hours at an American Furniture Warehouse only to be rejected from the opportunity to audition for the show. Not allowed to audition. What a slap in the face.

We did get a consolation prize. A Wheel of Fortune keychain.

Which was not this nice.

Weekend Stupidity Wrap-up

I saw so many ridiculous stories this weekend that I am starting to believe in all the 2012 hype.  What in the wide world of the wide world is going on people? I mean really.  Let's recap shall we?

1. Fergie. And I am not talking about the Fergalicous Fergie. I am talking about the original British version. The anti-Diana.  The one that made you wonder how in the heck Raggedy Ann became a princess or duchess or whatever.

This frumptacular ho.

Yes, the  famous weight watcher no success story is back in the news.  She was caught on tape trying to sell access to Prince Whatshisbutt for $750k.  I mean really, I can't even remember the guy's name. Do you think someone is going to pay that kind of cash just to have access to him?  Stupid.

Oh, and very Un-Duchessy in my opinion.

2. Tattoo Lip.  You may not have heard of him yet,  but I am sure he will make the cover of The Smoking Gun this week.  He is a local Denver home burglar. Rocky mountain high indeed!

Um, Anthony darling, if you are going to be a burglar, you might think about getting the tattooed words "East Side" and the number "13" removed from your face.  Are those directions to your house?  I am shocked you were caught.

Oh,  and he was caught robbing an Elvis impersonator. Not cool Anthony. Matt and I were married by an Elvis impersonator as featured here (but probably not this particular impersonator as we were married in Vegas). Whatever! You don't mess with the King.

3. LOST.  I did not actually watch the finale.  I tried to watch episode 2 of the 1st season but I was so damn confused, I gave up. It sounds like that was a good call.  Everyone all over the internets is crying about the ending. I don't know what happened,  but I am going to go ahead and assume it was stupid.

Don't feel bad if you wasted the last 6 years of your life watching this show only to be led to utter disappointment.  I felt the exact same way about Gilligan's Island. There never was a resolution. Do they ever get off the island?  Did the Professor finally design an invention that works the way it is supposed to without Gilligan screwing it up? Did the Skipper and Ginger finally do it? I was so mad I never found out! I wasted 12 years of my life people. Of course I now know I was watching reruns over and over all those years. At the time, it was very confusing. Sometimes it was in black and white and sometimes it was in color. What can I say? We didn't have Google back in the day. I grew up in the informational dark ages. How was I to know?

UPDATE: Perez Hilton just posted about tattoo lip. He must read my blog : )

Looking forward to more stupid crap,

Reflections on Marriage: Coffee Cup Edition

In all relationships, not just marriage, there are unspoken "rules."  Well I broke the "don't use my coffee cup" rule last night and I knew better. Marriage is about sharing your life with another.  Married people usually share money, kids, a home, a name and their worldly possessions.   In this house, there is one thing that absolutely not shared:  the coffee mug

Let me explain. I simply wanted a cup of tea.  After the tea kettle started  screeching, I reached into the cupboard and pulled out the first cup I touched.  It was Matt's coffee mug.

 This one.

I knew I should have just put it back and got another, and trust me when I tell you that  there is no cup/mug shortage in our house and I am aware that would have been the considerate thing to do.  However, I did not want to expend the energy it would take to lift my arm and put the mug back in the cabinet.

So anyway, I thought I would just casually set the cup on the coffee table and he would not notice right?

He did notice.  He asked "umm, what are you doing?"

Me:  "about what?"

Him:  "why are you using that cup?"

Me: "oh I did not notice I was using your cup."

Him:  "did you notice there are scratches on the bottom, inside the cup."

Me: "that is caused by you stirring your creamer."

Him: "I don't use a spoon"

Me:  "Hey, is this a new 30 Rock or a repeat?"

Oh well. This is a classic example of the mundane things that you have to consider in a relationship: Respect each others' stuff.  R-E-S-P-E-C-T.  No big deal, right?

Of course not. However, it would be a monumental deal, if he ever used this mug.

Hands off pal.

He is too considerate to do such a thing.

Chase has his own mug as well, but he is not as addicted committed  to coffee as we are,  and probably wouldn't care if anyone used his mug for a cup o' tea.

Chase's mug

Chase went to a hippy kindergarten in Boulder.  His class put on a Rainforest Production in which he portrayed a Tony-worthy tree frog.  It was seriously all we talked about for weeks.

There he is left of the baboon?

"Red-eyed tree frog" became a code word we used for years. That explains his mug. What is my point?  Well, duh,  that my son was a cute kindergartner. Oh and whoever said "don't sweat the small stuff" has, obviously,  never shared a house with another human being.

American Idol

I have really not been that into American Idol this season. That is all I have to say about that.

May is almost over and summer is still MIA

Well I thought I would try my hand at this again since I had so much fun with my kitchen blog. I want to learn how to do this right though-- and I hope to improve.

So a quick recap of events this last month. (It is almost June and it is downright cold around here). Anyway here is what has been happening: Matt and I built a firepit, we were visited by a bear,we attended one graduation and two graduation parties, we watched the Nuggets in the playoffs, we hosted two big parties, we rearranged the living room, we finished up the kitchen remodel, we (ok matt) tiled the bathroom, we watched the rest of the American Idol season 8, we switched from Dish to Comcast (dumb move), we have gone on countless hikes, we have poached various hot tubs (if you live in Summit you are familiar with that), and we have planted 6 trees. Of course we did other other stuff, but those are the highlights that stick out in my mind.

Things I want to do this summer: get my fishing license and catch a bunch a fish, ride the tandem down Vail Pass, climb a 14er (Whaaat?), collect more moss for my pond, go camping, go to the Royal Gorge and Mesa Verde (i say that every year but have not been to either in like 25 plus years), go to Dallas and McAlester (that is for sure), go to Cozumel (that is I hope), play some golf, paint my bedroom, find a cool mirror for my bathroom, find a better shoe organization system, host a summer party to thank those who helped with the kitchen (and for anyone else that wants to come), get a cute shorter haircut and generally not stress out. Ohhhh and watch the Nuggets go all the way!!!
My daily thought on the law: What is up with the returning security at the Dam Road? Where did all the guards go in the Winter? I thought we were in danger of an imminent terrorist attack? Guess the terrorist like to go some place warm during the long winter. Here is a little excerpt from thethe Summit Daily News: The automated protective barriers sitting dormant on Dillon Dam Road since December could become active again in the next couple of weeks, said Denver Water spokeswoman Stacy Chesney. Law-enforcement officers stopped guarding either end of Dillon Dam last fall, and Denver Water security has been the primary daytime defense against a potential attack on the 231-foot-high earthen structure holding Dillon Reservoir’s 83 billion gallons of water. WTF??????
