This is me, not breaking the law, in Mexico.
So my blog is titled and conceptualized around giving my thoughts (as an attorney and a regular person) on the law around this mountain community. I started my blog back in 2005 but have only posted a few times, so perhaps I am not inspired. Trust me, there are plenty of ridiculous, yet true, stories to keep you entertained. I could write daily on Colorado's medical marijuana laws and the inevitable fall out. Anywhoo, here is a little diddy for you. I am not sure why this guy is fighting this because the charge is a misdemeanor ticket in Colorado.
GEORGETOWN — A Colorado man who says his religion explains his marijuana use is fighting a possession charge in court.
Trevor Douglas says he admitted having marijuana in the car in August of 2009 when he was pulled over for having an expired vehicle registration in Clear Creek County. Douglas says that he shouldn't be punished for having the pot, though, because he says marijuana is the main sacrament of his religion.
Douglas is a member of the Hilo, Hawaii-based THC Ministry. He says his religion mandates marijuana use and that the drug is similar to wine used in the Christian rite of communion.
Douglas planned to represent himself in a hearing Tuesday. He also faces a charge of having drug paraphernalia.
Just thought I would inform those who don't know: Colorado State Patrol now has the capacity to scan your plate and know instantly if your tags are expired. Good to know if you are otherwise breaking the law.
