NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt

The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, often abbreviated to AIDS Memorial Quilt, is an enormous quilt made as a memorial to and celebration of the lives of people who have died of AIDS-related causes. Weighing an estimated 54 tons, it is the largest piece of community folk art in the world as of 2010.

My thoughts: I don’t want to re-live those years back in the 80s' and 90's but I also don’t want to forget them either and all the close friends and lovers I lost during that time. I don't miss the getting up every 4 hours around the clock to give Stephen his poison dose of AZT and watch him waste away day after day along with his deteriorating mind to the point I no longer could recognize the man I fell in love with. I can still see that red liquid bottle of morphine at his bedside. I often think about my friends who are gone now years later mostly late at night when I can't sleep and remember them all in their 20's, 30s, and early 40's cut down in the prime of their lives so handsome and strong. Doug who lived two doors down, Alex, David, Tom, the list seems endless but I'm going to try and remember them all today. I am rapidly approaching the age of 60 and wonder why me? Why I am I still here? I wish I knew the answer.
