After reading about that I put together an emergency kit in case I get stuck somewhere (though I would probably have to leave my house for that to happen).
*** Disclaimer: I probably should not be allowed to watch TV or read the internet because my imagination gets carried away and I get obsessed with certain stories. Remember that med student that got stuck in a cave spelunking last year in Utah and was just left there because there wasn't a damn thing they could do? Never mind. Probably not. I get obsessed with stories like that and I lie in bed wondering what it would be like to be wedged between two rocks for days on end. I know I am weird like that. Don't even get me started on the doctor who got stuck in her boyfriend's chimney. I seriously can't stop thinking about that poor lady.
So anyhow, that is how I came up with my emergency-oh-hell-no-I-am-not-going-to-starve-or-lose-a-limb plan. I keep this backpack full of supplies in my Jeep. Now that cooler weather is approaching, I got it out today to do a little inventory and see how I can improve my odds of surviving.
We are going to assume in my near-death scenario that I have a coat as I always have a coat because I live in the mountains and winter lasts about 10 months a year. Oh --and I keep a pair of snow boots in there as well.
On to the inventory:
I think these are definitely necessity items for me-- hygiene/health-wise.
After revisiting my (now expired) food supply, I am thinking that I need to step it up. I just grabbed random things out of pantry when I put this together.
Funny story: My sister was over at my house when I was putting this kit together a few years ago. I told her my theory of only including high calorie foods like condensed milk (1200 for one can) in order to increase my survival time. She was cracking up and predicted the headlines in the news:
"WOMAN STRANDED 4 DAYS GAINS 10 POUNDS." hahahahaha.
I also threw in some emergency clothing:
Keep in mind, the goal is survival. I am not trying to win any fashion awards.
I also threw in some other things I deemed necessary in case my plight went on for more than a day or two.
(To be honest, I am not sure where I came up with some of these things).
On review, I can see that I need to add toothpaste/brush and some vaseline(?). What else?
QUESTIONS:
Do you have a emergency survival kit for your vehicle?
What would (do) you include that I forgot?
Should I throw in a jar of peanut butter (if so, should it be Jif or all-natural)?
